Informations générales sur le cours : CANG9118
This course is designed to boost your English writing skills from B2 to B2+, if not C1, and is meant specifically for students who feel like they have been ‘stagnating’ in their English learning. We will focus on grammar and vocabulary, and writing to inform and entertain in a casual or consultative register (not a formal register). There will also be some unmarked pronunciation teaching and many pair and group discussion exercises.
There is no set topic for this course: you will choose the subject of your blog. You’ll discuss this with your teacher in the first class. Please be aware that if you choose to write a literary blog, you will NOT be writing essays, dissertation, commentaries, or literary critiques – you will be writing blog posts about books you would/ would not recommend.
During the third class of the semester, you will write your very first blog post. You will then receive written feedback and a mark, and using that you will edit it in the next class. You will also receive audio feedback and a mark for your edited blog post. This cycle will happen three times during the semester.
Finally, there will be online grammar and vocabulary exercises to do throughout the semester that will help you with the final online grammar and vocabulary exam.
You must have a B2 level of English. This course is not available for other levels.
You must submit work for each of the assessment criteria in order to be eligible to validate the course. You must obtain an average of at least 10/20 to validate the course.
- 33% new blog posts (written in class)
- 33% edited blog posts (done as homework)
- 33% online exam
For each new blog post and edited blog post, there will be a non-negotiable submission deadline. Of course, if you are ill or some other situation prevents you from doing your work, please inform your teacher as you would normally do when at the ENS. Any form of plagiarism will result in a 0/20 for that piece of work.
The final exam online will be open for 1 week, after which it will be impossible to re-open.
Days and times change for this course each semester depending on the CDL's teachers' availabilities. Please see the CDL website.
